When a young man is mysteriously murdered after being told by a somnambulist at Dr Caligari Werner Krauss's side show that he won't live out the night, his friend Francis Friedrich Feher is determined to find out the truth behind what happened. With help from his fiance Jane Lil Dagover, Francis soon discovers that Dr Caligari is actually the director of a local insane asylum and is using a deranged patient to pose as his somnambulist in order to commit a series of grisly murders. Springing into action, Francis must put a stop to Dr Caligari's evil scheme before he can claim anymore victims.

King Hu writes and directs this martial arts feature. During the Ming dynasty, the emperor's first eunuch Tsao Pai Ying has killed General Yu and exiled his surviving children. But while they make their way out of China, Tsao orders the offspring to be killed by his secret Black Arrow Troop at the border's Dragon Gate Inn. But unbeknownst to Tsao, martials arts expert Xiao Shih Jun has been summoned by the innkeeper Cho Kin, who was one of the general's lieutenants, to protect Yu's children, forcing him to take down Tsao and his forces.

The Royal Ballet perform the stories of Beatrix Potter, bringing characters including Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck, Jeremy Fisher, and Squirrel Nutkin to life against an English countryside background. Choreography is by Sir Frederick Ashton and the music is composed by John Lanchbery.

Canadian horror directed by Bob Clark in which a group of sorority sisters find themselves having to stay in their sorority house over the Christmas break. They begin to receive eerie phone calls from a man they call 'The Moaner', and when Barb Margot Kidder invites other girls to listen in on one of the calls, she aggravates him and he threatens to kill them all before suddenly hanging up the phone. What they don't realise however, is that the creepy caller is closer than they think...

Canadian drama set in the 1940s in which 16-year-old Jeannie Dougall Carol Kane struggles to keep up with her flamboyant friend Dolly Bonnie Carol Case as Dolly boasts of her sexuality and tries to bring Jeannie out of her shell. Jeannie's brother Jimmie Paul Bradley and his friend Billy Doug McGrath return home from military duties for a short while, and during this time Billy rapes Jeannie. Jeannie's parents, Mary Doris Petrie and Jim Donald Pleasence are extremely proud and conservative and are scandalised when Jeannie falls pregnant. Confiding in her parents, her father denies that this is the fault of the perpetrator, Billy, and now sees Jeannie as defiled and unwholesome. To keep up appearances and the family's reputation, Jim decides that Jeannie must now marry, as her pregnancy progresses.

Action adventure film in which a masked vigilante by the name of Diego de la Vega Alain Delon sets out to seek vengeance after his old acquaintance Miguel de la Serna Marino Mas is murdered before he can take up the position of governor of Nueva Aragn. Vega learns that Nueva Aragn is rife with corruption and is soon to be ruled by the greedy Colonel Huerta Stanley Baker, who ordered the assassination of Serna. Vega creates an alter ago by the name of Zorro based on a legendary tale told in the streets of Nueva Aragn, and uses this character as a means of privately executing his revenge.

1960s drama from director Yasujir Ozu following the tender story of a widower with a young daughter. Japanese social mores dictate that it is the responsibility of Michiko Shima Iwashita, in the absence of her mother, to take care of her father, Shuhei Chish Ry, for the rest of his life. Shuhei, however, shuns this course of action and instead arranges a marriage for his highly disinclined daughter.

This Japanese comedy drama by Yasujiro Ozu, based on a novel by Ton Satomi, is a reworking of his earlier film 'Late Spring'. At the memorial service of their friend, Miwa Chishu Ryu, three of his old friends devise a plot to find a husband for his unmarried daughter, Ayako Yoko Tsukasa. To their consternation, Ayako refuses to fall in with their plan, expressing a preference to remain with her mother, Akiko Setsuko Hara. The three men all harbour a lifetime crush on Akiko but agree that one of them should marry Ayako, which causes conflict among both family and friends. Eventually, with the help of Ayako's friend, Yukiko Mariko Okada, Akiko and Ayako are reconciled, and Ayako concedes to marry according to the wishes of her elders.

Pier Paolo Pasolini's screen adaptation of the Greek tragedy stars opera diva Maria Callas in her only film role. Medea Callas, daughter of a king, falls in love with Jason Giuseppe Gentile and helps him steal the Golden Fleece. She becomes Jason's wife and queen, but when he decides to leave her she wreaks a horrible revenge, murdering her own children.

These four short observational documentaries by filmmaker John Krish offer an affecting portrait of life in post-war England in the late 1950s and early 1960s. 'The Elephant Will Never Forget' 1953 is an elegy to London's once-thriving tram system. 'They Took Us to the Sea' 1961 looks at the experiences of children in a post-war nation slowly emerging from years of austerity. 'Our School' 1962 explores the opportunities available to school-leavers in the post-war years. 'I Think They Call Him John' 1964 is a touching portrait of the lonely life of an elderly widower.

Avant-garde British filmmaker Patrick Keiller directs this experimental pseudo-documentary, which takes the viewer on a visual and intellectual pilgrimage through the various landscapes of modern England. Narrated by Vanessa Redgrave, the film juxtaposes unusual combinations of words and images to explore themes of nature, time, politics, history and economics, with particular focus on the financial crisis of the late 2000s.

Norman Cohen and Arnold L. Miller co-direct this cult documentary exploring London nightlife. Depicting the somewhat unsavoury underside of London in the 1960s, the feature examines the after dark goings on in the city's seedy clubs and bars. Venturing beyond the glamorous images of the capital, the film offers a stark and revealing insight into life in the city during the swinging '60s.

A young poet wishing to take his own life soon finds events have overtaken him in this experimental 1960s drama from director Don Levy. Disillusioned poet Max Michael Gothard decides to commit suicide, but rather than making it a quiet affair, Max contacts the local media so that, he hopes, his name will live on. On the appointed day, however, Max suddenly has a change of heart, but with an eagerly expectant media in attendance, he finds that he is no longer in control of events.

Gerry O'Hara directs this morality tale on the dangers of promiscuous sex and 'loose women of easy virtue'. In the hip and rebellious early 1960s, Austrian girl-about-town Eva Margaret Rose Keil arrives in a quiet English village and quickly sets about seducing the male population. As her conquests mount, relationships tumble, and it's not long before sexually transmitted diseases are doing the rounds, resulting in much soul-searching and general angst amongst all concerned.

Bill Douglas's highly acclaimed, largely autobiographical trio of films that follow the fortunes of Jamie Stephen Archibald as he grows up in a poverty-stricken mining village in post-war Scotland. The films were made over a six-year period and track Jamie's growth from childhood to adolescence. Many critics regard the trilogy as one of British cinema's greatest achievements.

Director Norman J. Warren makes his feature debut in this exploitation drama from 1968. Attractive European model Marisa Lucia Modugno comes to Britain for a fashion job but soon becomes trapped in a seedy world where she is deceived into posing nude for girly magazines.

A black woman Lelia Goldoni begins an affair with a white man, creating family and racial tension.

Drama following the volatile relationship between Dink Berwick Kaler and Dee Julie Shaw. When Dee comes across homeless man, Dink, living on the streets of London, she decides to invite him to stay with her. Soon they become involved with one another but their relationship is rocky, often switching between loving and cruel exchanges. As tensions mount the couple head towards the point of self-destruction.

The first full commercial release of the 1972 film based on the play of the same name adapted and directed by Jane Arden. The film is an exploration into the mind of a young woman marked as a schizophrenic after suffering a mental breakdown only to find that the cause is not due to her insanity but rather a distorted sexual guilt constructed by the prohibitive community in which she lives.

Saxon Logan directs this 1980s British horror. When a rich couple Nikolas Grace and Joanna David journey to the home of brother and sister Alex and Marion Britain Bill Douglas and Heather Page for dinner, they end up clashing with their hosts over their contrasting social and moral views. A destructive storm ruins their dinner plans so instead they go out to a restaurant where they meet the establishment's strange owner Fulton MacKay and his employee Michael Medwin. As the foursome continue to argue over their differences, the tension builds and the night takes a blood-spattered turn for the worst.

French horror directed by Georges Franju. After his daughter Christiane Edith Scob is horribly disfigured in a car accident he caused, plastic surgeon Dr. Gnessier Pierre Brasseur is driven mad with guilt. As atonement, the doctor, aided by his loyal assistant Louise Alida Valli, kidnaps young women, takes them to his secret laboratory and surgically removes their faces with the hope of grafting them on to his daughter's ruined features and restoring her former beauty. But will Christiane allow him to succeed in his dangerous experiments

Adaptation of the classic Harold Pinter play directed by Clive Donner. Aston Robert Shaw prevents homeless man Davies Donald Pleasence from being beaten up on the street and out of pity invites him to live in his run-down flat with his brother Mick Alan Bates. As Davies confides in the two brothers he admits that he has been living under another name and talks about hoping to retrieve his papers to confirm his identity. However, as Mick questions him about his origins Davies becomes defensive and their exchanges become hostile. Aston and Mick are also at odds with one another and as the tensions increase and each man comes to distrust the other it becomes clear that their new living arrangements are far from ideal.

British drama starring Richard Attenborough. Working class teenager Jack Read Attenborough gains a scholarship to an exclusive public school. However, his new surroundings are a stark contrast to his life growing up in London and Read is viewed as uncouth by his fellow classmates and teachers.

British sci-fi drama starring Tilda Swinton and Bill Paterson. British journalist Sullivan Paterson is based in the Middle East where he is covering the conflict between Jordan and Palestine when he discovers a woman, Friendship Swinton, stranded without a passport or official documentation. As the fighting intensifies Sullivan offers her a safe haven in his hotel room. The pair begin a conversation and Friendship claims to be an android from another planet sent to bring peace to Earth.

Barbet Schroeder's dark tale follows Stefan Klaus Grunberg in his pursuit of an American girl, Estelle Mimsy Farmer who he met at a party in Paris and follows to Ibiza. Initially he leads an idyllic lifestyle with her by the sea until he succumbs to the drug culture that Estelle mixes in and the destructive trappings of heroin addiction. The soundtrack is provided by Pink Floyd and features some of their most spontaneous and eclectic work.

Double bill of silent features from the 1920s. 'Battleship Potemkin' 1925, masterpiece of Russian silent film pioneer Sergei M. Eisenstein, is a dramatised account of the naval mutiny and street riots at the sea port of Odessa that sparked off the 1905 Russian Revolution. When the crew of the Potemkin protests after being given rotten meat as rations, the captain responds by ordering the execution of the dissidents. Outrage at this injustice quickly ignites and the townspeople have soon surrounded the harbour in a mass demonstration - but the scene gives way to tragedy and brutality as the authorities move in to quell the uprising. In British documentary 'Drifters' 1929, which was influenced by and originally screened alongside 'Battleship Potemkin' in the UK, director John Grierson looks at the North Sea herring fleets and the men who worked them. The film pays particular attention to how the once traditional industry has become a more modern enterprise.

Collection of films by Polish director Walerian Borowczyk. In the animated feature 'Mr and Mrs Kabal's Theatre' 1967, the story follows the lives of Mr Kabal voice of Pierre Collet and his mechanical monster wife Louisette Rousseau who get on each other's nerves but can't imagine being apart. When Mrs Kabal suffers from indigestion after eating a butterfly, her husband has to travel inside her to find the source of the problem. Also included are 12 short films which comprise 'Astronauts' 1959, 'The Concert' 1962, 'Grandmother's Encyclopaedia' 1963, 'Renaissance' 1963, 'Angels' Games' 1964, 'Joachim's Dictionary' 1965, 'Rosalie' 1966, 'Gavotte' 1967, 'Diptych' 1967, 'The Phonograph' 1969, 'The Greatest Love of All Time' 1978 and 'Scherzo Infernal' 1984.
