Meanwhile, Slater becomes passionately involved with Steyner's wife Susannah York, unaware that the scheme hatched by her husband will result in his death.

Anthony Asquith directs this wartime propaganda drama. When his actress wife Irena Diana Wynyard moves to Berlin to further her career, throat specialist Dr Karl Roder Clive Brook decides to accompany her, although he is vehemently opposed to the newly-elected Nazi regime. There he meets Hans Glaser Derek Farr, a young engineer whose girlfriend has been incarcerated in a concentration camp. Together, they set up their own broadcasting service, Freedom Radio, to denounce the Nazi movement.

Wartime drama starring Patricia Roc. When shy working-class girl Celia Crowson Roc is called up for war service during World War Two, she dreams of a glamorous job in one of the services. But as a young unmarried woman, she is given a position in a local factory manufacturing aircraft parts. There she makes friends with other girls from very different social backgrounds, and begins a tentative relationship with a young airman, Fred Blake Gordon Jackson.

A.R. Rawlinson writes and produces this 1950s British thriller starring Philip Friend, Mary Mackenzie and Leslie Dwyer. The film follows former lovers Kyra Gerbaine and Felix Gretton Mackenzie and Philip Friend as they are reunited in a London hotel, years after separating during the war. Their relationship had previously compromised Felix's post as an intelligence officer and allowed a spy to escape. Now working as a waiter, Felix sets out to capture the spy by employing Inspector Fred Borcombe Dwyer to track him down after Kyra spots him in the hotel.

British sailing comedy from the 1950s starring John Gregson, June Thorburn, Cecil Parker and Keith Michell. The film follows newly-weds Tony and Jane Hudson Gregson and Thorburn as they embark on a voyage aboard their wealthy friends' yacht 'The Turtle' for their honeymoon.

British crime thriller starring Edward Underdown, Maxwell Reed and Natasha Parry. When the seaside town of Walsham Bay is rocked by the murders of a black marketeer and a taxi driver, the police appeal for witnesses. Pretty actress Molly Lester Parry comes forward with information and is taken under the protection of Detective Inspector Jack Viner Underdown and Walsham Bay's superintendent William Hartnell. However, before long the killer, named The Dark Man Reed, strikes again as he turns his attention to Molly.

Robert Stevenson directs this British drama starring Cedric Hardwicke, Nova Pilbeam and John Mills. The film depicts the life of Lady Jane Grey Pilbeam from her forced marriage, to her being named as the successor to the English throne by King Henry VIII Frank Cellier and the events of her brief reign before she was charged with high treason and beheaded.

Margaret Rutherford and Robert Morley star in this British comedy. The Drossmouth repertory company are having enough trouble preparing for their production of the poorly-written melodrama 'Tarnished Gold' when the play's indomitable author Catherine Beckwith Rutherford arrives. She soon locks horns with the play's producer Harry Blacker Morley, a confrontation which quickly escalates into out-and-out war.

This Ealing production of Charles Dickens' novel stars Cedric Hardwicke as the eponymous hero. The duplicitous scheming of an avaricious uncle robs Nicholas Nickleby of his rightful inheritance. In order to care for his family, Nicholas is forced to leave his schoolmaster's post, and seek his fortune as a travelling entertainer.

David Lean directs this adaptation of the Terence Rattigan play. Ralph Richardson stars as an aircraft maunfacturer whose all-consuming passion with making the ultimate supersonic jet kills both his son and son-in-law and almost destroys him and the rest of his family. Also starring Lean's wife, Ann Todd.

Classic musical comedy directed by Mark Sandrich. Jim Hardy Bing Crosby and Ted Hanover Fred Astaire are a successful song and dance double act until Jim decides to retire and become a gentleman farmer following Ted's seduction of his girlfriend. John Thaw stars in this adaptation of Michelle Magorian's novel. The outbreak of the Second World War sees nine-year-old Willie Beech Nick Robinson evacuated from London and billeted with crotchety widower Tom Oakley Thaw in the village of Little Weirwold. Willie is a sad little boy who has not had a happy or easy life, but he and Tom gradually warm to each other, and a strong friendship develops between the pair. Tom is therefore saddened and upset when Willie's mother Annabelle Apsion unexpectedly summons him back to the capital at the height of the Blitz.

Epic adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's classic novel. During World War Two, Charles Rider Jeremy Irons is stationed at the now deserted stately home, Brideshead Manor, formerly the residence of the Flyte family. He recalls how, as a Cambridge undergraduate, he first visited Brideshead after befriending Lord Sebastian Flyte Anthony Andrews. Charles then became caught up with the Flytes and their problems, most notably Sebastian's burgeoning alcoholism.

In 'Johnny On the Run' 1953 a young Polish orphan gets involved with two crooks who use his small stature to help them perform burglaries. In 'Hide and Seek' 1972 a boy escapes from a borstal to meet up with his criminal father, who he later learns is planning to rob a bank. In 'Terry On the Fence' 1985, based on Bernard Ashley's novel, an eleven-year-old runaway unintentionally gets involved with a gang of thieves and tries to find a way to make amends.

Christopher Miles directs this 1970s romantic comedy drama starring Joanna Shimkus, Mel Ferrer, Britt Ekland and Philippe Noiret. The film follows the love affairs of three couples who at different times occupy the same artist's studio in the Montmartre district of Paris during the 1930s and '40s.

Lionel Jeffries directs and co-writes this live action and animated feature based on Charles Kingsley's novel. 12-year-old Tom Tommy Pender is an amiable young lad apprenticed to the dishonest Master Chimney Sweep Grimes James Mason. When the boy is falsely accused of stealing, he escapes his pursuers by running away and jumping into Dead Man's Pool. Under the water's surface, he is transported to an animated world and finds himself having to rescue some new friends. After discovering this amazing new world and getting caught up in its adventures, will he ever get to return back home The cast also includes Billie Whitelaw, David Tomlinson, David Jason, Jon Pertwee and Una Stubbs.

Classic British horror drama starring Vincent Price. In England during the time of Cromwell, the villainous lawyer Matthew Hopkins Price travels the country hunting down and torturing those he proclaims witches. Spreading violence and terror in his wake, Hopkins encounters little opposition until he persecutes the Marshall family, and young Richard Marshall Ian Ogilvy resolves to put an end to the witchfinder's infamy. This, the third and final film from director Michael Reeves who died shortly after it was released, was filmed in Norfolk and Suffolk and is often considered one of the greatest British films ever made, being especially noteworthy for its use of the rural landscape.
